The palace is situated in Husulu village of Lachin district. Historical documents provide information that the palace was erected in the year 1761. Although the palace was a large complex, only one palace building has remained till the modern period.
From the general view of the palace, it becomes clear that the castle had a tall tower. There was an entrance door in the corner of the south side of the castle. The two-storeyed palace has beautiful arched ceilings fastened to the thick sidewalls. The palace also has a large hall, several auxiliary rooms, and a court-house. Delicately embellished door and windows of the palace are made of walnut wood. Eastern architectural traditions were widely used in the building of the palace. Most probably the sultanate was established here in 1700 and governed a large part of Zangazur district. The palace building was constructed of local stone and construction lime.
After the occupation of Lachin district by the Armenian Armed Forces in 1992, the Husulu village was renamed Melikatun. Later on, the Armenian invaders make use of the repaired Hamza Soltan Palace as a guest house or a hotel for tourists.
